Since Japan has scarce energy resources, natural energy from solar light and wind is regarded as valuable potential domestic sources of energy. The fact that the environmental load imposed by these forms of energy is very small makes them especially attractive and Japan's power companies are working hard to help them to prevail. However, because these forms of energy suffer from a number of drawbacks such as lower energy density and much more areas required for facilities than nuclear power, they are cautiously positioned as complementary power sources. It is uneconomical
and irrational to exclude nuclear energy |
