Electricity Demand in the Second Half of 2000 (Confirmed Report)


Demand Overview (Total across the 10 Power Companies)

o Demand for electricity in the second half of 2000 was up 1.5% on the same month the previous year to 413.12 billion kWh.

o Demand Excluding Extra High Voltage Demand

Lighting Demand (up 1.5%, 130.36 billion kWh)
Commercial Demand (up 2.3%, 75.56 billion kWh)

Commercial and lighting demand posted only small rises of 2.3% and 1.5%, respectively. The small rises were recorded despite increased demand for heating caused by lower temperatures in eastern Japan, and were primarily due to last year having an extra leap-year-day.

Large industrial user demand in the second half of 2000 was up for the third consecutive half term, rising by 1.6%. The increase resulted from firm performance in the non-ferrous metals and machinery sectors, and came despite a leveling off of growth in the ceramics and paper & pulp sectors.
