Electricity Demand in June 2000 (Bulletin)

(July 19, 2000)

Demand Overview (Total Across the 10 Power Companies)
○ Total demand in June was up 3.7% on last year to 64.6 billion kWh across the 10 companies.

○ Demand Excluding Extra High Voltage Demand
Lighting and Commercial demand posted increases of 4.3% and 3.1% respectively. Although the demand for cooling decreased compared to the first half of June in 1999, the increases were due to a longer meter reading period and relatively higher temperatures in the latter half of May.

Demand from large industrial users was up for the eleventh consecutive month, rising by 4.2%.

The increase resulted from firm performance in most industrial sectors, with particularly strong performance being noted in the steel and paper&pulp sectors.
