Demand Overview (Total across the 10 Power Companies)
o Demand for electricity in June was up 3.7% on the same month the previous
year to 64.57 billion kWh.
o Demand Excluding Extra High Voltage Demand
Lighting Demand (up 4.3%, 16.71 billion kWh)
Commercial Demand (up 3.0%, 2.45 billion kWh)
Commercial and lighting demand posted increases of 4.3% and 3.0%, respectively.
Because June 1999 figures were inflated by extremely high temperatures
in the first half of the month, the year-on-year rise in cooling demand
for June 2000 was relatively modest. Nonetheless, high temperatures in
late May, coupled with a longer meter-reading period, resulted in increased
demand.

Demand from large industrial users was up for the eleventh consecutive
month, rising by 4.2% to 23.01 billion kWh. The increase resulted from
firm performance in most industrial sectors, with particularly strong performance
being noted in the steel and paper & pulp sectors.
