Electricity Demand in 2000 (Confirmed Report)



Demand Overview (Total across the 10 Power Companies)

o Demand for electricity in 2000 was up 2.6% on the same month the previous year to 837.92 billion kWh.

o Demand Excluding Extra High Voltage Demand

Lighting Demand (up 2.6%, 254.59 billion kWh)
Commercial Demand (up 3.0%, 157.93 billion kWh)

Commercial and lighting demand posted rises of 3.0% and 2.6%, respectively. The increases were due to increased demand for cooling and heating caused by higher temperatures in June and August in western Japan, and low winter temperatures in eastern Japan.

Large industrial user demand in 2000 was up for the second consecutive year, rising by 2.8%. The increase resulted from firm performance in most industrial sectors, with particularly strong performance being noted in the steel and machinery sectors.
