Electricity Demand in January 2001 (Bulletin)

Total demand in January was up 3.8% on last year to 74.2 billion kWh across the ten companies.

Demand Excluding Extra High Voltage Demand
Lighting and Commercial demand posted increase of 3.5% and 5.3% respectively. The increases were due to increased demand for heating caused by lower temeratures nationwide from early January to mid January, despite of a shorter meter-reading period for Lighting.

Demand from Large Industrial Users was up for the eighteenth consecutive month, rising by 3.8%.

The increase was due to firm performance in the most of the sectors. Performance in the non-ferrous sector was particularly good.
