Electricity Demand in February 2001 (Confirmed
Report)
Demand Overview (Total across the 10 Power Companies)
o Demand for electricity in February was up 3.5% on the same month the
previous year to 72.25 billion kWh.
o Demand Excluding Extra High Voltage Demand
Lighting Demand (up 7.0%, 24.24 billion kWh)
Commercial Demand (up 5.9%, 13.60 billion kWh)
Commercial and lighting demand posted increases of 5.9% and 7.0%, respectively.
The increases were due to increased demand for heating caused by lower
temperatures in eastern Japan in the first half of February, and a longer
meter-reading period.
(Reference) Large Industrial Demand (down 1.7%, 20.86 billion kWh)
Large industrial user demand in February was down 1.7% on last year. It
was the first decline in 19 months, and was primarily due to February having
an extra leap-year-day last year.
