Electricity Demand in March 2001 (Bulletin)

(April 20, 2001)

[Demand Overview (Total Across the 10 Power Companies)]
Total demand in March was down 2.5% on last year to 68.3 billion kWh across the ten companies.

Demand Excluding Extra High Voltage Demand
Lighting and Commercial Demand posted declines of 4.1% and 1.4%, respectively. The declines were due to decreased demand for heating caused by higher temperatures in February and March, and by the fact that February 2000 had a longer meter-reading period due to an extra leap-year day.

(Reference) Large Industrial Demand
Large Industrial Demand in March was down for the second consecutive month, declining by 0.4%.

The decline was due to generally sluggish industrial production that depressed performance in all sectors.
