Electricity Demand in March 2001 (Confirmed
Report)
Demand Overview (Total across the 10 Power Companies)
o Demand for electricity in March was down 2.5% on the same month the previous year to 68.31 billion kWh.
o Demand Excluding Extra High Voltage Demand
Lighting Demand (down 4.2%, 21.55 billion kWh)
Commercial Demand (down 1.4%, 13.60 billion kWh)
Commercial and lighting demand posted declines of 1.4% and 4.2%, respectively. The declines were due to decreased demand for heating caused by lower temperatures in February and March, and by the fact that February 2000 had a longer meter-reading period due to an extra leap-year day.
(Reference) Large Industrial Demand (down 0.3%, 22.10 billion kWh)
Large industrial user demand in March was down for the second consecutive month declining by 0.3% on last year. The decline was due to generally sluggish industrial production that depressed performance in all sectors.
