Electricity Demand in July 2001 (Bulletin)

Total demand in July was up 1.3% on last year to 73.7 billion kWh across the 10 companies.

Demand excluding Extra High Voltage Demand
Commercial demand and lighting demand posted rises of 5.3% and 2.2% respectively. The increases came despite a shorter meter-reading period, and were attributable to increased cooling demand resulting from higher temperatures in all areas except northern Japan. Demand was particularly high in the Kanto region, which experienced record high temperatures for the month of July.

Large industrial user demand in July was down for the sixth consecutive month, declining by 1.2%.

The decline was due to generally sluggish industrial production that depressed performance in all sectors, with particularly poor results noted in the steel sector.
