Total demand in August was up 1.4% on last year to 81.2 billion kWh across the 10 companies.

Demand excluding Extra High Voltage Demand
Relatively cool weather in eastern Japan during August depressed demand for cooling, resulting in a rise of only 2.1% in commercial demand. Lighting demand, however, posted a firm rise of 7.4%, because of the longer meter-reading period.

Large industrial user demand in August was down for the seventh consecutive month, falling by 4.5%.

The decline was due to generally sluggish industrial production that depressed performance in all sectors, with particularly poor results noted in the steel and the non-ferrous sectors.
