Demand Overview (Total across the 10 Power Companies)
o Total demand in 2001 was down 1.6% on last year to 824.10 billion kWh
across the 10 companies.
o Demand Excluding Extra High Voltage Demand
・Lighting Demand (0.0%, 254.47 billion kWh)
・Commercial Demand (up 0.8%, 159.18 billion kWh)
Demand excluding extra high voltage demand showed a modest rise, with flat
demand for lighting, and an increase of 0.8% in commercial demand. The
modest results were due to decreased demand for cooling and heating caused
by lower temperatures in August and September, and higher temperatures
in January and subsequent months.

Large industrial user demand in 2001 was down for the first time in 3 years,
declining by 4.0%. The decline was due to generally sluggish industrial
production that depressed performance in all sectors, with particularly
poor results noted in the steel and the non-ferrous sectors.
