Electricity Demand in January 2002 (Confirmed Report)

Demand Overview (Total across the 10 Power Companies)

　○　Total demand in January was down 1.3% on last year to 73.25 billion kWh across the 10 companies.

　○　Commercial and lighting demand both posted rises of 2.0% and 1.1% respectively. The modest rises were due to decreased demand for heating, caused by higher temperatures from mid-January to the end of January, despite a longer meter-reading period.

　　　・　Commercial Demand(up 1.1%, 13.06 billion kWh)

　○　 Large industrial user demand in January was down for the twelfth consecutive month, falling by 6.3%. The decline was due to generally sluggish industrial production that depressed performance in all sectors, with particularly poor results noted in the steel and the non-ferrous sectors.
