Electricity Demand in February 2002 (Confirmed Report)

Demand Overview (Total across the 10 Power Companies)

　○　Total demand in February was down 3.7% on last year to 69.60 billion kWh across the 10 companies.

　○　Commercial and lighting demand both posted declines of 2.4% and 1.9% respectively. The declines were due to decreased demand for heating, caused by higher temperatures in January and February.

　　　・　Lighting Demand (down 1.9%, 23.77 billion kWh

　　　・　Commercial Demand (down 2.4%, 13.28 billion kWh)

　○　 Large industrial user demand in February was down for the thirteenth consecutive month, falling by 5.2%. The decline was due to generally sluggish industrial production that depressed performance in all sectors, with particularly poor results noted in the chemical and the non-ferrous sectors.
