Electricity Demand in the First Half of 2003 (Confirmed Report)

Demand Overview (Total across the 10 Power Companies)

o Total demand in the first half of 2003 was down 1.2% to 415.38 billion kWh across the 10 companies.

o Demand Excluding Extra High Voltage Demand

　・　Lighting Demand (down 1.6%, 122.72 billion kWh)
　・　Commercial Demand (down 0.4%, 83.74 billion kWh)

Commercial and lighting demand both posted declines of 0.4% and 1.6% respectively. The declines were due to decreased demand for cooling caused by record low summer temperature.

With the economic recovery at a virtual standstill, growth was depressed in all large industrial sectors except textiles. As a result, large industrial user demand fell by 0.2%, bringing it to approximately the same level recorded in the first half of last year.
