Electricity Demand in the Second Half of 2003 (Confirmed Report)
2004/4/28
FEPC
[ Demand Overview (Total Across the 10 Power Companies) ]
Total demand in the second half of 2003 was down 0.5% on the previous year’s second half to 418.9 billion kWh across the 10 companies.
Demand Excluding Extra High Voltage Demand
- Lighting Demand (down 1.3%, 136.93 billion kWh)
- Commercial Demand (up 0.8%, 79.13 billion kWh)
Relatively mild weather in winter depressed demand for heating, resulting in a decline of 1.3% in lighting demand. Commercial demand, on the other hand, despite depressed demand for heating due to the mild weather, was aided by the extra leap-year day in February and posted a rise of 0.8%.
(Reference)
- Large Industrial Demand (up 0.6%, 129.53 billion kWh)
Large industrial user demand in the second half of 2003 was up for the first time in 2 half terms, increasing by 0.6%. The rise was due to firm performance in the chemicals, the non-ferrous metals and the machinery sectors, and a longer meter-reading period resulting from the extra leap-year day in February.
