Electricity Demand in January 2003 (Confirmed Report)

Demand Overview (Total across the 10 Power Companies)

　○　Total demand in January was up 5.8% on last year to 77.5 billion kWh across the 10 companies.

　○　Commercial and lighting demand both posted increases of 3.6% and 8.6% respectively, due to increased demand for heating caused by lower temperatures in January, and a longer meter-reading period.

　　　・　Lighting Demand (down 8.6%, 29.81 billion kWh)

　　　・　Commercial Demand (up 3.6%, 13.54 billion kWh)

　○　Large industrial user demand in January was up for the seventh consecutive month, increasing by 5.2%. The increase resulted from firm performance in all sectors except the textile sector. Performance in the chemicals and steel sectors was particularly good.
