Electricity Demand in March 2003 (Confirmed Report)

Demand Overview (Total across the 10 Power Companies)

　○　Total demand in March was up 6.4% on last year to 69.6 billion kWh across the 10 companies.

　○　Commercial and lighting demand both posted increases of 6.8% and 9.3% respectively, due to increased demand for heating caused by lower temperatures from late February to March.

　　　・　Lighting Demand (up 9.3%, 22.67 billion kWh)

　　　・　Commercial Demand (up 6.8%, 12.74 billion kWh)

　○　Large industrial user demand in March was up for the ninth consecutive month, increasing by 4.2%.
The increase resulted from firm performance in all sectors except the textile sector. Performance in the chemicals and steel sectors was particularly good.
