Electricity Demand in May 2003 (Confirmed Report)

Demand Overview (Total across the 10 Power Companies)

　○　Total demand in May was up 1.7% on last year to 64.5 billion kWh across the 10 companies.

(Demand Excluding Extra High Voltage Demand)

　○　A shorter meter-reading period resulted in a relatively small rise of 1.0% in lighting demand compared to the last three months. Commercial demand, however, posted a firm rise of 4.2%.

　　・　 Lighting Demand (up 1.0%, 19.71 billion kWh)
　　・　Commercial Demand(up 4.2%, 11.85 billion kWh)

　○　Large industrial user demand in May was up for the eleventh consecutive month, increasing by 1.8%. The increase resulted from firm performance in the chemical, steel, and machinery sectors.
