Electricity Demand in the First Half of 2004 (Bulletin)

2004/10/20
FEPC

[Demand Overview (Total Across the 10 Power Companies)]

Total demand in the first half of 2004 was up 5.5% to 438.1 billion kWh across the 10 companies.

Demand Excluding Extra High Voltage Demand

Commercial and lighting demand both posted increases of 6.5% and 7.1% respectively. The increase reflected the marked difference in cooling demand between last summer, which was unseasonably cool, and this summer, which was the hottest on record.

Note: Year-on-year changes in commercial power calculated by adjusting figures for the same period one year ago to match 2004 demand categories (for reference only).

(Reference) Large Industrial Demand

Large industrial user demand in the first half of 2004 was up for the second consecutive half term, increasing by 3.9%. The rise was due to firm performance in all sectors except the textiles, the paper & pulp and ceramics sectors. Performance in the machinery sector was particularly good.
