Electricity Demand in August 2004 (Bulletin)

2004/9/17
FEPC

[Demand Overview (Total Across the 10 Power Companies)]

Total demand in August was up 10.1% to 82.1 billion kWh across the 10 companies.

Demand Excluding Extra High Voltage Demand

Commercial and lighting demand posted increases of 15.9% and 13.4% respectively. The increase reflected the marked difference in cooling demand between last summer, which was unseasonably cool, and this summer, which was the hottest on record, despite a shorter meter-reading period.

Note: Year-on-year changes in commercial power calculated by adjusting figures for the same period one year ago to match 2004 demand categories (for reference only).

(Reference) Large Industrial Demand

Large industrial user demand in August was up for the eighth consecutive month, increasing by 4.5%. The rise was due to firm performance in all sectors except the paper & pulp and the textiles sector. Performance in the machinery and the chemicals sectors was particularly good.
