[Demand Overview (Total Across the 10 Power Companies)]

Total demand in FY2004 was up 3.7% on last year to 865.4 billion kWh across the 10 companies.

Demand Excluding Extra High Voltage Demand

• Lighting Demand (up 5.0%, 272.55 billion kWh)
  
  
• Commercial Demand (up 4.3%, 125.04 billion kWh)

Commercial and lighting demand posted rises of 4.3% and 5.0%, respectively. The increases were due to increased demand for cooling caused by record high summer temperatures.

• Large Industrial Demand (up 2.8%, 269.07 billion kWh)

Large industrial user demand in FY2004 was up for the third consecutive year, rising by 2.8%. The increase resulted from firm performance in all sectors except textiles, the paper & pulp and the ceramics sectors, with particularly strong performance being noted in the machinery sector.
