Electricity Demand in January 2005(Confirmed Report)

[Demand Overview (Total across the 10 Power Companies)]

Total demand in January was up 0.3% on last year to 76.4 billion kWh across the 10 companies.

(Demand Excluding Extra High Voltage Demand)

Despite increased demand for heating caused by lower temperatures from late December to early January, lighting demand posted a decline of 0.3% due to a shorter meter-reading period. Commercial demand, however, posted an increase of 0.7%.

Note: Year-on-year changes in commercial power calculated by adjusting figures for the same period one year ago to match 2004 demand categories (for reference only).

Large industrial user demand in January was up for the thirteenth consecutive month, increasing by 1.6%. The rise was due to firm performance in all the sectors except the textiles and the paper & pulp sectors.
