Electricity Generated and Purchased in the Second Half
of 1999 (Bulletin)
1. Nationwide Summary
Total electricity generated and perchased in the second half of 1999 saw
a rise of 3.1% due to recovery in large industrial user demand. 446.80
billion kWh were generated(up 2.5% adjusted for leap year).
Breakdown
Hydro
The flow rate was below that of the previous year's second half at 95.2%.
Nevertheless, 25.19 billion kWh were generated, up 4.8% on the same period
last year.
Thermal
Increased use of thermal power, coupled with decreased use of hydro power,
resulted in a 4.4% rise in thermal generation. 215.07 billion kWh were
generated.
Nuclear
The capacity utilization rate at all companies was up compared to last
year, leading to a 4.2% rise to 157.14 billion kWh.
Capacity utilization rates in 1999 and 1998 were 84.6% and 81.6% respectively
(Japan Atomic Power Company figures excluded).
2. State of the Companies
Business results were up at all the companies due to recovery in industrial
demand.
Monthly Peak Load
Combined peak load for the ten companies was 142.048 million kWh (recorded
at 10 am, 27 January), up 0.2% on the same period last year.
Flow Rates
Poor rainfall nationwide in February and March resulted in a figure of
94.5% across the nine companies.
