1. Nationwide Summary
Increased demand from large industrial users, coupled with lower temperatures
in eastern Japan that increased demand for heating, led to a rise of 1.7%
to 67.20 billion kWh across the ten companies.
Breakdown
Hydro
Flow rates were above average, leading to a rise in hydro power generation.
6.21 billion kWh were generated, up 4.6%.
Thermal
Increased use of hydro and nuclear power depressed thermal generation.
36.44 billion kWh were generated, down 5.1%.
Nuclear
The capacity utilization rate at all companies was up compared to last
year, leading to a 5.7% rise to 6.38 billion kWh.
2. State of the Companies
With the exception of Okinawa, business results at most of the companies
were up due to recovery in industrial demand. The results at Hokkaido and
Tohoku were particularly good due to increased demand for heating resulting
from lower temperatures.
Monthly Peak Load
Combined peak load for the ten companies was 121.335 million kWh (recorded
at 12:00, 5 April), up 0.4% on last year.
Flow Rates
Although Hokkaido and Tohoku recorded above-average flow rates due to plentiful
rainfall, flow rates at the rest of the companies were below-average. As
a result, the flow rate across the nine companies was 90.1%.
