Electricity Generated and Purchased in September 2000 (Bulletin)
(2000/10/13)

1. Nationwide Summary
Decreased demand for cooling caused by lower temperatures led to a decline of 2.3% to 78.09 billion kWh across the ten companies.

Breakdown

Hydro
Flow rates were well below average, leading to a decline in hydro power generation. 5.57 billion kWh were generated, down14.2%.

Thermal
Despite decreased use of hydro and nuclear power, decreased use of thermal power resulted in flat growth, with 38.56 billion kWh generated.

Nuclear
The capacity utilization rate at all companies was down compared to last year, leading to a 13.3% decline to 22.89 billion kWh. Capacity utilization rates in 2000 and 1999 were 75.2% and 86.6% respectively (Japan Atomic Power Company figures excluded).

2. State of the Companies
Business results at companies in western Japan were sluggish due to decreased demand for cooling caused by lower temperatures.

Monthly Peak Load
Combined peak load for the ten companies was 168.087 million kWh (recorded at 15:00, 1 September), up 4.4% on last year.

Flow Rates
Although Hokkaido and Shikoku recorded above-average flow rates due to plentiful rainfall, flow rates at the rest of the companies were average or below average. As a result, the flow rate across the nine companies was 97.7%.
