Electricity Generated and Purchased in November 2000 (Bulletin)
(2000/12/13)

1. Nationwide Summary
Increased demand from large industrial users, coupled with increased demand for heating caused by low temperatures in eastern Japan, led to a rise of 3.0% to 71.01 billion kWh across the ten companies.

Breakdown

Hydro
Flow rates were above average, leading to a rise in hydro power generation. 5.03 billion kWh were generated, up 5.9%.

Thermal
Despite of increased use of hydro power, decreased use of nuclear power led to a rise of only 1.8% in thermal generation. 30.76 billion kWh were generated.

Nuclear
The capacity utilization rate at all companies was down compared to last year, leading to a 4.8% decline to 26.12 billion kWh. Capacity utilization rates in 2000 and 1999 were 85.8% and 90.1% respectively (Japan Atomic Power Company figures excluded).

2. State of the Companies
Business results at all the companies were bullish. Results at companies in eastern Japan were particularly bullish due to increased demand for heating caused by lower temperatures.

Monthly Peak Load
Combined peak load for the ten companies was 131.322 million kWh (recorded at 17:00, 20 November), up 1.8% on last year.

Flow Rates
With the exception of Hokkaido and Tohoku, plentiful rainfall in most part of Japan resulted in a flow rate of 123.4% across the nine companies, the fourth highest figure ever recorded for November.
