1. Nationwide Summary
Depressed large industrial user demand led to a decline of 1.3% to 70.29 billion kWh across the ten companies.

Breakdown

Hydro
Flow fates were above average, leading to a rise in hydro power generation. 4.99 billion kWh were generated, up 8.0%.

Thermal
Reflecting the overall decline in generated and purchased results and increased use of hydro and nuclear power, thermal generation dropped by 3.3% to 31.82 billion kWh.

Nuclear
Although the capacity utilization at all companies was down compared to last year, test operations resulted in a 0.1% rise in nuclear power generation. 23.79 billion kWh were generated.

Capacity utilization rates in 2001 and 2000 were 74.4% and 75.5% respectively (Japan Atomic Power Company figures excluded).


2. State of the Companies
Business results at most of the companies were sluggish due to depressed industrial demand.

Monthly Peak Load
Combined peak load for the ten companies was 124.207 million kWh (recorded at 15:00, 2 October), down 4.8% on last year.

Flow Rates
Although Hokuriku, Kansai and Shikoku recorded below-average flow rate, rates at the rest of the companies were above-averaged or average. As a result, the flow rate across the nine companies was 100.8%.
