Electricity Generated and Purchased in June 2002 (Bulletin)

1. Nationwide Summary
Total electricity generated and purchased in June was down for the eleventh consecutive month, falling by 2.5%. The decline was due to decreased demand for cooling caused by lower temperatures, and depressed large industrial user demand. 71.82 billion kWh were generated.

Breakdown

Hydro
Flow fates were below those of last year, leading to a decline in hydro power generation. 5.43 billion kWh were generated, down 25.4%.

Thermal
Overall decline in generated and purchased led to a 3.8% decline in thermal generation. 31.56 billion kWh were generated.

Nuclear
The capacity utilization rate at all companies was up compared to last year, resulting in an 8.2% rise in nuclear power generation. 25.42 billion kWh were generated.

Capacity utilization rates in 2002 and 2001 were 81.9% and 76.9% respectively (Japan Atomic Power Company figures excluded).

2. State of the Companies

With the exception of Chugoku, business results at the rest of the companies declined due to decreased demand for cooling caused by lower temperatures, and sluggish industrial demand.

Monthly Peak Load
Combined peak load for the 10 companies was 138.886 million kWh (recorded at 15:00, 11 June), down 11.3% on last year.

Flow Rates
