1. Nationwide Summary

Total electricity generated and purchased in July was down 12.5%, due to decreased demand for cooling caused by lower temperatures nationwide. 78.05 billion kWh were generated.


Breakdown
Hydro
Flow rates were above those of last year, leading to a rise in hydro power generation. 7.83 billion kWh were generated, up 2.0%.
Thermal
Despite decreased use of nuclear power, the overall decline in generated and purchased power led to a 4.3 decline in thermal generation. 38.96 billion kWh were generated.

Nuclear
The capacity utilization rate at all companies was down compared to last year, resulting in a 39.1% decline in nuclear power generation. 17.03 billion kWh were generated.
Capacity utilization rates in 2003 and 2002 were 53.1% and 87.1% respectively (Japan Atomic Power Company figures excluded).

2. State of the Companies

Monthly Peak Load
Combined peak load for the 10 companies was 149.744 million kWh (recorded at 15:00, 11 July), down 15.1% on last year.

Flow Rates
With the exception of Hokkaido, all companies recorded above-average flow rate, leading to a flow rate of 110.8% across the nine companies..
