1. Nationwide Summary

Increased demand from large industrial user let to a rise of 0.5% to 69.47 billion kWh across the 10 companies.

(Breakdown)

Hydro Flow rates were below those of last year, leading to a decline in hydro power generation. 6.15 billion kWh were generated, down 17%.
Thermal Increased use of nuclear power led to a 13.5% decline in thermal generation. 30.47 billion kWh were generated.
Nuclear The capacity utilization rate at all companies was up compared to last year, resulting in a 51.2% rise in nuclear power generation. 22.78 billion kWh were generated.
Capacity utilization rates in 2004 and 2003 were 73.3% and 48.5% respectively (Japan Atomic Power Company figures excluded).

2. State of the Companies

With the exception of Kansai and Chugoku, business results in the rest of the companies rose due to increased large industrial demand.

[Monthly Peak Load]

Combined peak load for the 10 companies was 120.127 million kWh (recorded at 15:00, 22 April), down 0.9% on last year.

[Flow Rates]

With the exception of Tohoku, Tokyo and Hokuriku, flow rates at the rest of the companies were below average. As a result, the flow rate across the nine companies was 93.9%.
