Electricity Generated and Purchased in February 2005 (Bulletin)
2005/3/16
FEPC
1. Nationwide Summary
Total electricity generated and purchased in February 2005 was up 3.1% across the ten companies to 78.73 billion kWh (up 6.8% adjusted for leap year). The rise was due to increased demand for heating caused by lower temperatures despite of the longer accounting period in February of last year (leap year).
(Breakdown)
Hydro | Flow rates were above those of last year, leading to an increase in hydro power generation. 3.99 billion kWh were generated, up 1.7%. |
Thermal | Overall increase in generated and purchased and decreased use of nuclear power led to a 9.1% rise in thermal generation. 42.47 billion kWh were generated. |
Nuclear | The capacity utilization rate at all companies was down compared to last year, resulting in a 4.2% decline in nuclear power generation. 19.34 billion kWh were generated. Capacity utilization rates in 2004 and 2003 were 64.6% and 67.3% respectively (Japan Atomic Power Company figures excluded). |
2. State of the Companies
With the exception of Okinawa, business results in the rest of the companies rose due to increased demand for heating caused by lower temperatures.
[Monthly Peak Load]
Combined peak load for the 10 companies was 149.684 million kWh (recorded at 18:00, 1 February), up 5.0% on last year.
[Flow Rates]
With the exception of Chubu and Hokuriku, flow rates at all the companies were above average. As a result, the flow rate across the nine companies was 110.5%.
