Comments on the Enactment of the Act on Special Measures concerning Procurement of Renewable Energy Sourced Electricity by Electric Utilities

August  26,  2011
Makoto Yagi, FEPC Chairman

For Japan, a resource-poor country, the greater use of renewable energies is extremely important, and so we highly evaluate the “Act on Special Measures concerning the Procurement of Renewable Energy Sourced Electricity by Electric Utilities,” which was passed into law today, as an effective means to accelerate the introduction of such energies.

As purchasing costs will continue to affect the lives of citizens and activities of industries , their understanding and consent are vital in moving forward. We ask the government to publicly explain in detail the specific level and method of sharing the burden in the future.

The electric power industry will steadily prepare for the implementation of the purchase system, and will actively make efforts to develop and introduce  control systems to eliminate any impact on the quality and stable supply of electricity even when large amounts of electricity from renewable energies are fed into the electric power network in the future.
