Electricity Demand in May 2002 (Confirmed Report)

Demand Overview (Total across the 10 Power Companies)

　○　Total demand in May was up for the first time in nine months, increasing by 0.7% on last year to 63.4 billion kWh across the 10 companies.

　○　Commercial and lighting demand both posted increases of 0.8% and 3.4% respectively, due to a longer meter-reading period.

　　　・　Lighting Demand (up 3.4%, 19.52 billion kWh)

　　　・　Commercial Demand (up 0.8%, 11.37 billion kWh)

　○　 Large industrial user demand in May was down for the sixteenth consecutive month, falling by 0.4%. The decline resulted from poor performance in all sectors except steel sector.
