Outline of WANO
- 1. Name
- WANO (World Association of Nuclear Operators)
- 2. History
- WANO was established in May 1989, in the wake of the Chernobyl
accident, at the proposal of the late Lord Marshall. Its purpose
is to promote nuclear power generation safety, and allow operators
around the world to exchange information on control procedures and
performance at nuclear power generating facilities. WANO
celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.

- 3. Major Activities
- Information exchange on operating controls and problems
- Conducting peer reviews
- Exhibitions, workshops, seminars, etc.
- Direct exchange of information and technology through exchange
visits
- Mutual exchange of successful case studies and operating
indicators
- A general meeting is held once every other year at a mutually
agreed location (the president is selected from among the WANO
members hosting the next general meeting). The 2001 meeting will
be held in Seoul, Korea.
