Establishment of the MOX Energy Promotion Council

1. Objective

With the aim of promoting the MOX energy utilization plan being implemented by electric power companies, the council will exchange information about related measures taken by companies and examine and respond to common issues while coordinating with the government and related organizations so that sufficient public understanding can be gained.

2. Areas of Study

  1. Analysis of the reasons behind the lack of public understanding regarding the MOX energy utilization.
  2. Measures taken by companies, government, and other related organizations regarding the MOX energy utilization and the situation of plant siting.
  3. Common issues faced by electric power companies and responses to those issues and promotion of activities to enhance public understanding.

3. Council Composition

Chairperson: Chairman of the Federation of Electric Power Companies
Vice-Chairperson: Vice-Chairman of the Federation of Electric Power Companies
Members: Presidents of the following companies: The 9 major electric power companies (Hokkaido, Tohoku, Hokuriku, Tokyo, Chubu, Kansai, Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu Electric Power Company); Japan Atomic Power Company Co., Ltd.; Electric Power Development Co., Ltd.; and Japan Nuclear Fuel Ltd.

June 15, 2001

5. Other

  1. Meetings will be held once a month for the time being.
  2. An administrative committee composed of manager-level personnel in charge of nuclear power, planning, and others at the individual companies shall be created as a subordinate organization to the council in light of the need to promote studies from a cross-sectional perspective by cooperating with persons involved in nuclear power as well as planning, PR, and plant siting.
