1. Nationwide Summary
Total electricity generated and purchased in March remained even at 76.73
billion kWh across the ten companies due to decreased demand for heating
caused by higher temperatures.
Breakdown
Hydro
Flow rates were well above average, leading to a rise in hydro power generation.
5.55 billion kWh were generated, up 30.4%.
Thermal
Leveling off of growth in overall demand, coupled with increased use of
hydro and nuclear power, led to a decline of 11.1% to 32.74 billion kWh.
Nuclear
The capacity utilization rate at all companies was up compared to last
year, leading to a 7.5% rise to 29.19billion kWh. Capacity utilization
rates in 2000 and 1999 were 92.8% and 86.3% respectively (Japan Atomic
Power Company figures excluded).
2. State of the Companies
Business results at most of the companies declined or showed only modest
increases due to decreased demand for heating caused by higher temperatures.
Monthly Peak Load Combined peak load for the ten companies was 138.368
million kWh (recorded at 11:00, 9 March), up 2.4% on last year.
Flow Rates
Plentiful rainfall nationwide resulted in a figure of 106.6% across the
nine companies.
