Electricity Generated and Purchased in December 2001 (Bulletin)

1. Nationwide Summary
Depressed large industrial user demand led to a decline of 0.4% to 78.16
billion kWh across the ten companies.
Breakdown
Hydro
Flow fates were well below those of last year, leading to a drop in hydro
power generation. 3.89 billion kWh were generated, down 9.9%.
Thermal
Overall decline in generated and purchased results and increased use of
nuclear power led to a 4.9% decline in thermal generation. 35.82 billion
kWh were generated.
Nuclear
The capacity utilization rate at all companies was up compared to last
year, resulting in a 5.2% rise in nuclear power generation. 27.09 billion
kWh were generated.
Capacity utilization rates in 2001 and 2000 were 85.4% and 81.8% respectively
(Japan Atomic Power Company figures excluded).
2. State of the Companies
Business results at most of the companies declined or showed only modest
increase due to sluggish industrial demand. Monthly Peak Load Combined
peak load for the ten companies was 141.975 million kWh (recorded at 17:00,
21 December), up 0.3% on last year.
Flow Rates
Poor rainfall nationwide resulted in a flow rate of 86.2% across the nine
companies.
