1. Nationwide Summary

Total electricity generated and purchased in September was up 4.5%, due to increased demand for cooling caused by higher temperatures. 79.57 billion kWh were generated.


Breakdown
Hydro
Flow rates were above those of last year, leading to a rise in hydro power generation. 6.33 billion kWh were generated, up 44.6%.
Thermal
Decreased use of nuclear power led to a 12.5 rise in thermal generation. 41.29 billion kWh were generated.

Nuclear
The capacity utilization rate at all companies was down compared to last year, resulting in an 18.3% decline in nuclear power generation. 19.41 billion kWh were generated.
Capacity utilization rates in 2003 and 2002 were 62.5% and 76.6% respectively (Japan Atomic Power Company figures excluded).

2. State of the Companies
Business results were up at all companies due to increased demand for cooling caused by higher temperatures.

Monthly Peak Load
Combined peak load for the 10 companies was 166.535 million kWh (recorded at 15:00, 3 September), down 1.7% on last year.

Flow Rates
With the exception of Hokkaido, Shikoku and Kyushu, flow rates at the rest of the companies were above average. As a result, the flow rate across the nine companies was 106.6%.
