Electricity Generated and Purchased in the Second Half of 2004 (Bulletin)
1. Nationwide Summary
Total electricity generated and purchased in the second half of FY2004 was up 2.1% across the ten companies to 469.17 billion kWh (up 2.7% adjusted for leap year). The rise was due to increased demand for heating caused by lower temperatures in winter.
|Hydro||Flow rates were above that of the previous year's second half, leading to a rise in hydroelectric generation. 29.66 billion kWh were generated, up 8.1%.|
|Thermal||An overall increase in generated and purchased electricity led to a 1.3% rise in thermal generation. 235.43 billion kWh were generated.|
|Nuclear||Although the capacity utilization rate at all companies was down compared
to last year due to test operations, nuclear power posted an increase of
1.6%. 124.73 billion kWh were generated.
Capacity utilization rates in the 2nd half of FY2004 and FY2003 were 64.2% and 64.8% respectively (Japan Atomic Power Company figures excluded).
2. State of the Companies
Business results at all companies rose due to increased demand for heating caused by lower temperatures in winter.
[ Monthly Peak Load ]
Combined peak load for the ten companies was 149.684 million kW (recorded at 18:00, 1 February), remaining even with results for the same period last year.
[ Flow Rates ]
With the exception of Hokkaido, flow rates at all the companies were above average. As a result, the flow rate across the nine companies was 121.3%.
