Electricity Generated and Purchased in March 2004 (Bulletin)
2004/4/14
FEPC
1. Nationwide Summary
Despite decreased demand for heating due to higher temperatures from mid to late March, the decline was offset by a partial recovery in industrial demand. As a result, total electricity generated and purchased in March held firm with 78.65 billion kWh generated across the 10 companies.
(Breakdown)
Hydro | Flow rates were above those of last year, leading to a rise in hydro power generation. 5.05 billion kWh were generated, up 2.1%. |
Thermal | Increased use of nuclear power led to a 9.5% decline in thermal generation. 38.69 billion kWh were generated. |
Nuclear | The capacity utilization rate at all companies was up compared to last
year, resulting in a 24.6% rise in nuclear power generation. 22.81 billion
kWh were generated. (Capacity utilization rates in 2003 and 2002 were 71.1% and 57.1% respectively (Japan Atomic Power Company figures excluded).) |
2. State of the Companies
Business results in Hokkaido, Tokyo, Kansai and Chugoku declined due to decreased demand for heating caused by higher temperatures from mid to late March.
[ Monthly Peak Load ]
Combined peak load for the 10 companies was 137.271 million kWh (recorded at 19:00, 4 March), down 0.8% on last year.
[ Flow Rates ]
With the exception of Hokkaido, Tohoku, Tokyo and Hokuriku, flow rates at the rest of the companies were below average. As a result, the flow rate across the nine companies was 98.9%.
