Electricity Generated and Purchased in August 2004 (Bulletin)
2004/9/15
FEPC
1. Nationwide Summary
Total electricity generated and purchased in August 2004 was up 4.4% across the ten companies to 87.43 billion kWh. The rise was due to increased demand for cooling caused by higher temperatures, and increased large industrial user demand.
(Breakdown)
Hydro | Flow rates were below those of last year, leading to a decline in hydro power generation. 5.81 billion kWh were generated, down 28.1%. |
Thermal | Overall increase in generated and purchased led to a 4.5% increase in thermal generation. 43.96 billion kWh were generated. |
Nuclear | The capacity utilization rate at all companies was up compared to last
year, resulting in a 16.4% rise in nuclear power generation. 22.86 billion
kWh were generated. Capacity utilization rates in 2004 and 2003 were 68.3% and 61.2% respectively (Japan Atomic Power Company figures excluded). |
2. State of the Companies
With the exception of Okinawa, business results in all the companies rose due to increased demand for cooling caused by higher temperatures, and bullish large industrial demand.
[Monthly Peak Load]
Combined peak load for the 10 companies was 170.024 million kWh (recorded at 15:00, 6 August), up 1.6% on last year.
[Flow Rates]
With the exception of Chugoku and Shikoku, flow rates at all the companies were below average. As a result, the flow rate across the nine companies was 93.0%.
