Concerning the Unloading of the Fourth Shipment of Vitrified Waste to the Vitrified Waste Storage Centre

Unloading of the fourth shipment of vitrified waste to the Vitrified Waste Storage Centre was completed today. The waste is owned by Chubu Electric Power Company, Kansai Electric Power Company, and Japan Atomic Power Company.

 

"Pacific Swan", the ship transporting the vitrified waste, arrived at the port of Mutsu-Ogawara at 8:12 . Unloading of the transport casks began at 11:18 and ended at 12:19. Overland transport vehicles loaded with vitrified waste began leaving the port at 13:30 for the Vitrified Waste Storage Centre in Rokkasho-Mura. Overland transport was completed at 14:29. Unloading of the casks began at 14:42 and ended at 15:40. Vitrified waste receiving procedures were officially completed at 16:06. The total number of canisters received today was 40 canisters (2 casks).

 

Two casks bound for COGEMA were also loaded on to the "Pacific Swan" today. The casks were used to transport Phase III returned vitrified waste from France to Japan.
